Matrix & Cube proposed an innovative 240 metre ‘skinny tower’ for Clarke Street that would involve a $100 million investment and the creation of hundreds of new construction jobs. The proposal featured many world leading amenities, including a vertical garden designed by Jamie Durie OAM, a fully automated parking system to be controlled by residents’ mobile phones and sophisticated Environmentally Sustainable Design technologies.

The building’s place as a landmark for Melbourne was recognised in the design, which was more like a sculpture than a traditional residential tower. Advanced streetscape integration was emphasised.

CPR assisted Matrix & Cube with communication to all levels of government and other stakeholders throughout the planning process. Our consultants used their strong understanding of the planning process to make the case for the Clarke Street development on the merits of the project. CPR provided strategic advice and assisted with the preparation of supporting materials.

Ultimately the application was approved by government, with the Planning Minister describing it in Parliament as ‘an icon for the Southbank skyline’.
